Hi, friend! Thanks for stopping by!
My name is Nena Sterner, and I hail from sunny San Diego, California. I’m a professional boudoir & wedding photographer, a travel junkie, a history buff, a lover of all things strange and morbid, and an educator. This blog exists because I made the decision to share my knowledge, my passion, and my art with the world.
A little about me…
Ever since I was a child, I knew that some of my interests weren’t, well… conventional. While my friends played with their dollhouses and sang karaoke, my mind was occupied by endless questions. What happened to Anastasia? Why hasn’t Nessie been found yet? How long would it take to die if you were guillotined?
When I was in high school, this yearning for knowledge had become a full-fledged obsession as I began seriously researching these things in my spare time, purely to satisfy my own curiosity.
As an adult, these passions dominate my life. When I entered college, I started my own business, Nena Sterner Photography, specializing in portraiture and weddings. As I grew, I quickly realized that photography could be a vehicle with which I could explore travel and history in addition to boudoir. I began phasing out the other forms of portraiture that I offered, and now I focus entirely on boudoir, destination weddings, and travel photography.
Being self-employed is truly the best career I could have asked for; I love having the freedom to travel, get to know people, and help them build up their self-confidence. I’ve been to ten countries (so far), and all over the US, and my love of travel grows more and more with each new adventure. When I travel, I try to engulf myself in the local culture, and do my best to learn as much about their history as my time there will allow.
In 2015 I took my first solo adventure to Iceland, and it was life-altering. I learned a lot about myself, and even more about the beautiful people living in a small island in the middle of the Atlantic. And just like that, I was hooked on traveling alone.
My hobbies include browsing bookshops, antiquing, writing poetry, trying new beers, and, of course, researching the things that fascinate me. In recent years, I’ve become incredibly interested in conspiracy theories, and proving as well as disproving them.
More than anything, however, I love letting people know how important and how loved they are. I’ve dealt with depression and anxiety my whole life, and I know how healing it can be to feel like someone cares about you. So, whether you’re here to learn, to find a photographer, to plan your next big trip, or just to feel appreciated, I want to assure you that I am SO thankful that you’re here!
